A day in the life

Pete asks me all the time what Hannah does all day. So today I decided to document it, however much I could. Of course there are many moments I missed, like when she moved the stool across the kitchen and pulled out half the contents of a cupboard before I noticed what she was doing, but here are the highlights.

After breakfast Hannah did a little dancing with her Papi.

She has gotten really good at jumping.

After Papi went to work she picked out a book to read. For some reason her giant Lady dog was in the way. I have no idea why the giant dog wasn't in some more out of the way place!

I changed Hannah's sheets and I took the mattress of the crib to put new sheets on. Hannah thought the mattress on the floor was super cool.

But a tent in the house was even cooler!

We went back in the living room to play a little "Pat a Cake". Hannah is putting the cake "in the oven".

Then it was time for a diaper change and getting dressed. No pictures of that.

Then Hannah spent a good 15 minutes getting Guster to lick her feet while she laughed. Guster licking your feet is the funniest thing ever!

We went in the kitchen for a little cooking - butternut squash.

And then Hannah had her veggie pattie, cheese, and peaches for lunch.

Next was nap time, but I only took pictures of her waking up.

Another diaper change...

Then off to work!

I couldn't take many pictures at work, of course, but even though you can't see her Hannah is playing on this deck.

After work we borrowed the professional photographer's backdrop for a few pictures.

Then we came home to eat pizza.

Next is getting ready for bed - brushing teeth is NOT Hannah's favorite part!

And finally story time, which we have no pictures of. The end!

Christmas Day

Hannah, Pete and I woke up together at our house, found Hannah's wagon and book/cd from Santa, and opened stockings. Soon after Nah-ma, Grandpa, Uncle Harry, Uncle Brian, and Grandpa Joe arrived to spend the day with us.

This was one of the most special Christmas' we've ever had.

Diego

Diego died today. We had him put to sleep this afternoon at our vet's office. My poor little guy was so old and tired. He had lost control of his bodily functions, wasn't able to move around, and was going blind. I miss him.

Diego slept with me one last time last night. Bodily functions or not, I wanted him there. I wrapped him in a blanket and although I barely slept I am glad I did that. This morning he had a good breakfast and then rode around with Pete, Hannah and me all day in my lap. We got sandwiches and ate lunch at a park. Diego enjoyed scraps of all our sandwiches. We drove around a while so Hannah could nap and I cried and cried.

The people at the vet's office were so kind. The vet agreed that Diego had reached that time. We said we were uncertain because he ate so well. She told us that he was a fighter, but reminded us to look at all of his life - that he almost never moves anymore, cries because he's so uncomfortable... She reminded us that Diego has had 2 1/2 good years here, years that he may not have had or that may have been miserable if we hadn't taken him in. She gave him a sedative and left us alone with him. I held Diego as he went to sleep. He fought it all the way, looking at me the whole time. I don't think he was upset, I think he wanted to comfort me. He went very quickly and easily. A quick shot and he closed his eyes. I knew he was gone before she said so. He just wasn't there anymore. The room felt different.

I believe in God and I believe in Heaven. I have heard people who don't believe there are animals in Heaven and those who do. I don't know. I think everyone's Heaven is different and if it is truly MY paradise, mine will be filled with dogs. Regardless, I know that God loves all the creatures he has created, so I am sure there is a special place somewhere for Diego. I know he's there now. But I miss him.

Here are a few pictures we took last night of our family as it was when Hannah was born.

The next day

Today we went to eat at Red Lobster with Grandpa, David's family, and all of our family except Pete.

Hannah loved watching the lobsters, but grabbed her grandpa every time one of them moved.

Tia Teresa taught Hannah how to color.

After we got back home Hannah played in the back yard for a while.

Hannah is standing so well and is taking lots of steps. The grass is very difficult though!

Mattie and Brian played rope for a while, and then rested.

Father's Day

Hannah and I let Papi sleep late this morning, then we gave him some more Father's Day presents - a bbq pit and a scrapbook. Then we went with Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Harry looking for Fredericksburg peaches. (We got some and they are yummy!) At the first place we stopped we took these pictures with a very sleepy Hannah.

After a very short nap Hannah and I went swimming (Grandma watched) while Pete fished.

After we were done swimming we went to check on Pete - he caught 2 fish but he threw them back.

Before we went home Hannah took a picture with Uncle Harry, and the toy he gave her.

And Hannah had to have one last climb up the stairs with her Grandpa.

Hannah has a few new tricks. Last week she started dancing. She will dance to anything music like, even phones ringing. We keep the kids music channel on almost constantly now. I think I'm going to start looking in to music classes for us in the fall. She also learned from her Grandpa how to make noises by hitting her lip with her finger while humming, only she can't seem to get the hum and the hitting at the same time. She gets frustrated when there is no sound so eventually I have to do the finger part while she hums. 10 months is so fun!
